The intersection of Sunset and La Cienega boulevards in West Hollywood has been closed due to a natural gas leak, and motorists are advised to avoid the area.
KNX News' Pete Demetriou reports that a construction crew working in the area ruptured the gas line early Monday morning.

The leak was first announced at about 9:59 AM, when crews dug in the foundation and accidentally cracked a two-inch high-pressure gas line about 5 feet into the ground.
They immediately evacuated the area and called the fire department.
The fire department managed to evacuate about 50 people, both workers at the site and those in the buildings and businesses immediately adjacent to it.
They also had to shut down Sunset Boulevard, roughly a block to the west and a block to the east, and La Cienega down to the bottom of the hill.

Repairs were made, and traffic was permitted to flow through the area again at about 2:30 PM.
