Going to Fryman Canyon? Get ready to pay for parking.

Fryman Canyon

Those planning to hike the trails at Fryman Canyon in Studio City now have to pay for parking.

KNX News’ Karen Adams reported the lot is managed by Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority, which receives subsidies from Los Angeles County to keep the parking free, but officials say it's now lost that funding, forcing it to reinstate the parking fees.

As for the fees, it’s $7 to park there for two hours and $14 to park for four hours. A pay station stands at the main entrance to the trail.

Catherine, who hikes there several times a week, told Adams she’s not a fan of the fees.

“I mean, if you look at the lot right now, it's pretty empty,” she said. “It used to be packed full of people because this was very close to them, and very easy to get to, and it's free parking. It was amazing.”

Pushawn, another hiker, said she’s parking on the street now.

“I've refused,” she said. “I have not paid one dime.”

But one hiker, Shawn, said he‘s not bothered by the fees.

“I mean, it feels like the beach,” he said.
