House Republicans want to reduce Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg's salary to $1.

Georgia Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene proposed the cut and it was adopted by voice vote without opposition Tuesday as an amendment to the 2024 Transportation and Housing and Urban Development spending bill.

Greene explained in a post on X, formerly Twitter, that she wants to see Buttigieg fired for apparently misusing taxpayer dollars. In one example, Greene said Buttigieg had taken at least 18 flights on taxpayer-funded private jets since taking office in 2021.

"Pete Buttigieg doesn't do his job. It's all about fake photo ops and taxpayer-funded private jet trip to accept LGBTQ awards for him," she said.

"I'm happy my amendment passed, but he doesn't deserve a single penny," Greene added. "My amendment to cut his salary to $1 is paying him too much."

In introducing the amendment, Greene said American taxpayers should not be on the hook for paying for Buttigieg's "lavish trips or his salary."

"Deserving a taxpayer-funded paycheck is about job performance not about personalities or identity politics," she said.

The underlying bill needs to be approved by the full House and is unlikely to be approved by the Democratic-controlled Senate.

Buttigieg has not commented on the effort.
