HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (KNX) — Officials with the city of Long Beach issued a statement on Thursday indicating that a labor strike that halted trash collection services throughout parts of Orange County may end this week.

The city’s trash collection contractor, Republic Services, “expressed optimism that a labor agreement with the union serving [Huntington Beach] may be reached this week,” according to a statement.

“I’m hopeful that the progress being  made on labor negotiations in other cities will lead to a positive outcome here in Huntington Beach,” echoed Mayor Barbara Delgleize in a statement.

Delgleize referred to an agreement reached between Republic and Teamsters Local 396 in Anaheim on Thursday.

Huntington Beach officials assured residents that limited trash collection services remained ongoing until an official end to picketing. “Continue to place your trash bins on the curb on your regularly scheduled pick-up day,” a statement read. “If collection does not happen that day, please continue to leave your bins out until your trash is picked up.”
