The union representing thousands of local hospitality workers is demanding that ICE agents not be allowed at hotels and venues during some big, upcoming events, such as the World Cup and the 2028 Olympic Games.

It comes as ICE agents are expected to be part of the overall security team at the World Cup.

Unite Here Local 11 sent out more than 200 letters to hotels and stadiums across Southern California and Arizona, saying the presence of immigration personnel could pose a real danger to hospitality workers and customers alike.

“Workers are supposed to be safe in their workplace, and so if they're not because there's a presence of ICE or Border Patrol, our members are allowed to invoke that portion of their contracts and leave the premises,” Ada Briceño, co-president of the union, told KNX News’ Jon Baird.

The American Hotel and Lodging Association issued the following statement:

"As places of public accommodation, hotels play a unique role in their communities and are focused on the safety and well-being of their employees, guests, and the broader public. Hoteliers are committed to navigating this evolving landscape with care, professionalism, and respect for the communities in which they operate.”
