RIVERSIDE, Calif. (CNS) — Forecasters say temperatures will start to cool down today following days of triple-digit temperatures across much of Riverside County.

"Onshore flow and a coastal eddy will return to bring back cooler weather over the weekend," according to the National Weather Service. "Winds in the mountains and deserts will strengthen this weekend and continue brisk through Tuesday. A trough of low pressure will bring much cooler and breezy weather Monday and Tuesday, and areas of light rain."

While a cool down is on the horizon, Friday was another sizzler. By mid-afternoon, hot spots like Palm Springs and Thermal were easily into the triple-digits, while Riverside and most other areas of the county were in the high 90s.

Forecasters said that while relief is on the way, things will still be warm in the traditionally hottest areas on Saturday, particularly in the lower deserts and Coachella Valley. It will also be warm Sunday, "but not nearly as hot," according to the NWS.

Forecasters issued the standard warnings for staying safe in the heat, advising people to "drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

"Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances."
