RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. (KNX) — An inmate at a Rancho Cucamonga jail seriously hurt a deputy Saturday when authorities say the man stabbed the officer with a knife he made in jail.
Samuel Amador, 42, is now facing an attempted murder charge for the alleged attack on the deputy at the West Valley Detention Center.

It happened around 12:40 p.m. when the deputy was moving Amador from his cell to the recreation yard, according to a news release from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office.
As the deputy was preparing to search Amador, the inmate pulled a jail-made weapon he had hidden in his clothing and assaulted the deputy, authorities said.
“Although seriously injured, the deputy fought off the armed inmate and was able to secure him in a cell,” said Sgt. Michael Salazar.
Responding deputies rendered medical aid to the deputy and he was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for his injuries, authorities said.
The deputy is now recovering at home and is expected to make a full recovery, Salazar added.
Deputies found an approximate six inch knife in Amador’s possession, authorities said. The inmate will be booked on an additional charge of attempted murder on a peace officer but authorities did not disclose Amador’s initial charge.
