A workshop was held at the Pasadena Senior Center on Tuesday to help show Eaton Fire survivors that they have options on what to do with their insurance money.
United Policyholders’ Amy Bach told KNX News’ Karen Adams that homeowners have options because California has some unique rules in place.
“In almost every other state, if you want to collect the full amount of your insurance, you have to rebuild,” she said. “We passed a law in California that says you can replace by buying instead of rebuilding, and because it's a relatively new law and a lot of the adjusters who come in from out of state don't know about it. It's very important that we explain it to consumers and survivors so that they can flex their rights and use that to take the path that works best for them.”
Bach added that fire survivors have a lot more flexibility than insurance companies want them to know about.
Some ladies who attended the workshop told Adams they’re still trying to figure out what they’re going to do.
