Investigation launched in Palm Desert shooting

Authorities Friday were investigating a shooting in Palm Desert from last night, during which several businesses were struck with bullets.

Deputies from the Palm Desert sheriff's station responded shortly before 10 p.m. Thursday to a report of multiple shots fired in the area of the 73000 block of Highway 111, according to Riverside County Sheriff's Department Lt. Paul Heredia.

"Upon arrival, deputies located evidence of a shooting, including numerous shell casings," Heredia wrote in a statement. "Additionally, deputies located bullet impact marks on businesses in the area."

No signs of injuries were found on the scene.

As Coachella Valley Violent Crime and Gang Task Force officers assisted, they found two loaded handguns near the area of the shooting, according to Heredia. The station's Investigations Bureau also responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.

No other information was immediately available.
