The Irwindale Speedway is closing down after 25 years of racing.
Officials say the race track will host its last “Thursday Night Thunder” event in December and close at the end of the season.

There have been plenty of questions about what was going to happen to the speedway after the 63-acre property it sits on changed hands a few years ago. The latest idea is to convert it into an 11-building industrial and business park.
Professional racer Austin Varco told KNX News the situation is similar to what happened with Auto Club Speedway, a Fontana track that was demolished last year
“The land is just too valuable,” Varco said. “As far as I understand, Irwindale is nestled between two big industrial plants, and for years I guess they have wanted the land that Irwindale’s built on.”
Public hearings on the redevelopment plans are set to begin early next year.
