KNX Hero, Project Angel Food continue to feed SoCal's most vulnerable despite COVID-19 pandemic

It’s been a busy holiday season for past KNX Hero of the Week, Richard Ayoub!

He and Project Angel Food continue to feed Southern California’s most vulnerable, despite the pandemic.

Cooking food, delivering food, and fundraising. Nothing has stopped.

Just last week, Project Angel Food was part of “Divas Simply Singing.” It’s a fundraiser hosted by actress and singer Sheryl Lee Ralph, who is on Project Angel Food's board of trustees.

"She has been a champion and a warrior in the fight against AIDS, and we cannot say enough good things about her!" remarks Richard.

Project Angel Food helps Californians who are the most in need.

"Our clients are the most vulnerable. They are the ones who are sick, hungry and alone. They are the ones with diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and HIV/AIDS. And, they should not be leaving their homes even to go grocery shop," says Richard. "That's why we bring the meals to them, free of charge!

Despite COVID-19 challenges with social distancing and safety protocols, Richard tells me that over Thanksgiving, Project Angel Food delivered more meals than ever before!

“We had about 175 people come, and we did a caravan on Vine Street,” explains Richard. “We had celebrities like Megan Hilty, Juan Pablo Di Pace, and city councilman, Mitch O’Farrell.”

In total, about three thousand meals were handed out for Thanksgiving. Another three hundred were delivered to PATH members, who were formerly homeless.

Looking ahead to Christmas, Project Angel Food is not slowing down. And, with the state's new "Stay-At-Home" order, Richard tells me that his kitchen is tightening health protocols more than ever before.

Plus, Project Angel Food has started an "adopt-a-chef program," where locals can financially support a chef who is out of work because of the pandemic. Each chef works at Project Angel Food, and it's rewarding on all sides.
