Every year, the Kevin Armstrong M.D. Memorial Sports Foundation distributes hundreds of shoes to students in Santa Ana who would otherwise go without, aiming to help them stay active and healthy for the spring and summer.
Former KNX Hero and Vice President of KAMSF, Karen Armstrong, tells Heroes Host Heather Jordan that the nonprofit recently distributed its latest batch.
"We were able to hand out 275 brand new pairs of ASICS running shoes to deserving kids," she said.
Their motto is "Healthy Athletes, Healthy Futures," and nearly 3,000 shoes have now been distributed through their RunStrong program.
Armstrong says some kids gain so much confidence that it's like giving them a new superpower, "For our students, many of who can't afford a new pair of high-quality running shoes, there's a pride and confidence that comes with the gift of the new shoes."

"When you give a student a new pair of shoes, you are telling them I partner with you, I believe in you," said Armstrong. "And to watch how they match the moment and run faster, work harder...and the joy on their faces at the races. There's nothing like it."
Armstrong believes her late brother, Kevin, would be "humbled" and "proud" of what the company has accomplished in his memory as a small community-based nonprofit.
