Sometimes, there's nothing better than grabbing your favorite book, hanging with your best buddy, and reading...to some puppies.
Theo Schwartz and Larry 'CJ' Stanback spend nearly every Tuesday reading to dogs up for adoption at the Pasadena Humane Society.
According to the Pasadena Humane, "After completing the Kids for Animals Club afterschool program, they didn’t want to stop. They pushed to do more... and insisted their parents call the volunteer office to learn about other kids’ programs."

As a result, the two 11-year-olds are now part of the Reading Rovers volunteer program, and Theo told KNX Heroes producer Heather Jordan how it works.
He said, "Basically, we go there to the kennels, and whatever book we have with us, we'll just read to the dogs for like 45 minutes to an hour."
CJ said what they do helps increase chances for adoption because "Reading to the dogs makes them happier and feel like they're cared for and calm."
CJ and Theo have been friends since kindergarten and attend Dahlia Heights Elementary. They say the reading is fun, but the best part is being around the dogs and helping them become more adaptable.
