Just in time for the 2024 elections, the Los Angeles County Registrar's Office has opened a high-tech vote-counting center in the City of Industry that promises to make balloting more efficient and secure.

Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk Dean Logan said the new $10 million facility will put an end to the days where ballot counting required the use of three separate buildings in different cities.

“The facility is 144,000 square feet. It has parking for 785 staff and operational vehicles, including 25 electric vehicle charging stations,” he said. “It includes a 10,000 square foot tally room that accommodates our 20 tally scanners, and it’s fully secured and maintained by Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk personnel.”

Logan said the tally room will be secured with keycard access, and the entire facility will be monitored by cameras during the counting process.

“Only people who need access to the tally room are able to be in that room,” he said. “It also has 24/7 video surveillance, so any activity that's going on in there, in addition to the windows, we have a record of the activity that goes on in there.”

Logan said the goal of the new security system is to restore public faith in the vote tallying process.
