The Los Angeles County COVID vaccine mandate for large outdoor and indoor events goes into effect at 11:59 p.m. on Thursday.
For outdoor events with 10,000 people or more, the mandate — announced in September — requires people 12-years old and up to show proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 or a negative test taken within the last 72 hours. Events include theme parks, sporting events, and concerts.
Attendees must also show proof of at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine or a negative COVID test taken 72 hours before entering movie theaters, restaurants, bars, and gyms.
"This modified health officer order aligns with the continued need to reduce risk of transmission and increase vaccination coverage," Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer said. "This is a reasonable path forward that will position us to be better able to break the cycle of surges."
L.A. City said beginning Nov. 4, residents must show proof of full vaccinations against COVID-19. Mayor Eric Garcetti signed an ordinance Wednesday requiring anyone entering stadiums, movie theaters, gyms, restaurants, and bars to show proof of full vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test within the last three days.
“Vaccinating more Angelenos is our only way out of this pandemic, and we must do everything in our power to keep pushing those numbers up,” Garcetti said.
“These new rules will encourage more people to get the shot and make businesses safer for workers and customers — so that we can save more lives,” the mayor continued, “better protect the vulnerable, and make our communities even safer as we fight this pandemic.”
