The 34-year-old had been housed in the MCRP facility since Feb. 1, and was set to be released next February, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) said in a statement.

"The MCRP allows eligible offenders committed to state prison to serve the end of their sentences in the reentry center and provides them the programs and tools necessary to transition from custody to the community," CDCR said. "It is a voluntary program for male offenders who have approximately two years left to serve."

He was initially admitted from Los Angeles County on June 14, 2010, to serve 12 years and six months for carjacking with the use of a firearm, according to CDCR.

"While incarcerated, he was also convicted in Kern County in 2015 to serve four years for possession of a controlled substance in jail/prison, a second strike offense," CDCR said.

After missing from the MCRP facility for just over 36 hours, Orozco was found and arrested without incident and transported to the California Institution for Men, officials said.

His case will now be referred to the district attorney for "consideration of escape charges."
