The 2025 ParkScore by the Trust for Public Land ranked the nation’s 100 most populous cities based on five metrics: acreage, access, investment, amenities, and equity in public parks. L.A. came in at #90.

Some of the issues the report cited” there aren’t enough parks for the population, and low-income neighborhoods have fewer and smaller parks. Only 62% of L.A. residents live within a 10-minute walk of a park, falling short of the average of 76% for major U.S. cities.

Other Southern California cities didn’t do so hot either, with Riverside coming in at #81 and Anaheim at #82. But Irvine, where a third of the city is made up of parks, nearly topped the list at second place.

The number one spot went to Washington, D.C. where 99% of residents live near a park.
