L.A. County officials are being accused of ignoring a major child sex abuse scandal involving probation boot camps for teenagers.

More than 2,000 people have now come forward, claiming they were raped or sexually abused at the camps, which operated for more than three decades.

The issue was highlighted Wednesday by Brianna Wingfield, who testified to the U.S. Senate about her traumatic experience at Camp Scott in Santa Clarita as a 14-year-old in 2005.

"We were promised at Camp Scott that we would be protected, but all the girls experienced rape and sexual assault. No one was protected, and every single one of us was abused in ways you cannot imagine," said Wingfield.

She said all those who spent time in these camps will never be the same.

Her attorney, John Manley, told KNX News the alleged victims who were ordered to these camps were nearly all kids of color.

"These were children from rough neighborhoods in the county. They weren't from Pacific Palisades, and they weren't from Santa Monica. They were literally sent to a rape camp. So we think this hearing was really important," Manley said.

He says he wants county supervisors and officials to be held to account at a public hearing.

KNX News contacted the County Probation Department for their comment, which said officials do not talk about pending litigation.
