Witnesses told KNX they watched as L.A. police officers finally apprehended the suspect after noon.

The situation began around 7:30 a.m. in the 5500 block of Canoga Avenue, according to the LAPD. Witnesses told KNX the suspect, a man who lives at the complex, had been "threatening people" but did not elaborate on his behavior or how the situation began.

The LAPD SWAT team, K9 officers, firefighters were called to the scene, with several LAPD police officers seen standing on a second-floor balcony during the hours-long standoff with the suspect who neighbors believed to be armed.

One witness told KNX she lives just below the man involved in the standoff. While she had not seen him Thursday, she told KNX she definitely heard him.

"Oh he was screaming...throwing something...also jumping and just [doing] crazy things," she said, adding that she believes he lives alone.

"It's scary. It's very scary because...I cannot believe that this is happening here," another neighbor said.

While police have not confirmed to KNX that the suspect is armed, another building tenant told KNX that police informed her earlier that he was.
