The American Lung Association has given failing air-quality grades to Los Angeles and several other California cities for the 25th year in a row in its 2024 State of the Air report.
The report also ranked the Los Angeles area as the smoggiest region in the nation.
“Los Angeles remains the city with the worst ozone pollution in the nation, as it has been in 24 of the 25 years of reporting in “State of the Air”– even though city residents are exposed to unhealthy levels of ozone an average of 55 days a year fewer than now than they were in 2000,” according to the report.
Bakersfield, California was ranked the worst city for short-term particle pollution. It was also ranked the most polluted city by year-round particle pollution.
