Los Angeles County has granted $10 million to 46 community-based organizations working to ease food insecurity.

KNX News' Nataly Tavidian spent some time at Alma Backyard Farms Wednesday, where a group of government organizations and nonprofits hosted a roundtable to brainstorm creative ways of using the money.

One in three homes are food insecure, meaning they don't have reliable access to food, and according to a study done by USC, the problem has been on a steady incline since 2021.

Ali Frazzini with L.A. County Sustainability Office says the issue goes beyond cost.

"There are many inequities across the food system. Neighborhoods where even if you have money to get enough food, you may not have a grocery store or a farmers market nearby where you can access fresh, healthy food," she said.

Frazzini says the county will soon launch an office of food equity to bring all interested partners together to build a more resilient food system.
