LOS ANGELES (KNX) – Los Angeles first responders rescued a pilot who made an emergency landing on train tracks in Pacoima Sunday, saving his life with just seconds to spare before a train smashed through the small plane's wreckage.
The pilot was taken to a trauma center by paramedics, fire officials said. Body-worn camera footage released Sunday night by the the LAPD showed officers rushing to pull the bloodied pilot from the plane. Bodycam footage generally begins record video before audio. When the audio begins, you hear an officer screaming, "Go!" as the train blows its horn and tears through the single-engine plane. The pilot was the only occupant.
Officials reported no other injuries.
The L.A. fire department said it had contained a minor fuel spill created by the plane crash.
Fire officials said the damaged airplane landed near the Antelope Valley Metrolink train tracks. All train traffic was restricted in the area.
Police shut down lanes on San Fernando Road and Osborne Street as officials investigated the area.
