Two separate hit-and-run accidents in South L.A. have led to the deaths of two elderly men in recent months. Detectives believe eyewitness testimony is the only chance of finding the drivers involved.

69-year-old Francisco Rodriguez was walking on La Brea and Coliseum Avenue on the evening of March 21 when he was hit by a driver who fled the scene. He died a month later.

On April 20, 70-year-old Reuben Tillman was riding his bike on Central Avenue under the 105 freeway. He was struck by a vehicle at high speed and died a few days later as a result.

"Initially, both these cases came out as severe hit and runs, so they didn't have the normal response you would get as if someone was deceased at the scene," South Bureau Traffic Detective Ryan Moreno told KNX News' Pete Demetriou. "So we had a little bit of lag time getting on these cases."

Moreno said there were no video cameras near either of the collision points, causing the department to ask anyone who was in the areas and saw what happened to come forward.

A $50,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction in either of these cases.
