Los Angeles Police Department Chief Michel Moore’s last day in office has arrived.
There will be a ceremony at 3 p.m. outside the LAPD headquarters to honor Moore, who announced Jan. 12 that he would be retiring at the end of February. When he walks out of the building for the final time as chief, an Honor Cordon will be formed by participating LAPD officers and civilians.
In his Jan. 12 announcement, Moore said it was time for him to focus on his family.
“It's time for me to shift my focus to the two most important people in my life - my wife Cindy and daughter Haley, “ he said. “They have given much over the years in support of me in the demands of this profession.”
Moore said he will be moving away from Los Angeles to closer to his daughter in Tennessee. He will have a consultant role with the city.
On Wednesday, Moore spoke with KNX News’ Craig Fiegener before being honored by Mayor Karen Bass and the Los Angeles City Council.
“Reflecting back in four-plus decades this has been my life that is also a new adventure, an opportunity to now focus on my daughter and my wife for that next chapter of our life, and so there's excitement there as well,” he said.
Dominic Choi will take over as Interim Chief. Mayor Bass told KNX News the search for Moore’s permanent replacement continues, including working with UCLA researchers on a community survey.
“I've been going to different stations for roll calls, asking the officers what they want to see, not who, but what they want to see in the next chief," she said.
