LOS ANGELES (KNX) — A Los Angeles police officer is set to be arraigned Tuesday for charges dating back to 2019, where he’s said to have lied about a motorist driving under the influence.

“We depend on law enforcement officers to tell the truth,” District Attorney George Gascón said. “Especially when failure to do so jeopardizes another person’s liberty.”

In a statement Tuesday, Gascón’s office said the case dates back to the night of Oct. 18, 2019, when Officer Alejandro Castillo stopped a man in Hollywood for allegedly making an unsafe left turn.

Castillo, 49, then gave the driver a sobriety test and arrested him for suspicion of driving under the influence. He’s charged with one felony count of filing a false report and one felony count of perjury following the incident.

Castillo is expected to be arraigned at the Foltz Criminal Justice Center. The case remains under investigation by the LAPD’s Internal Affairs Group.
