The Los Angeles Police Department Monday identified the officer who fatally shot a man in the Pacoima area.
Alexander Aguilar-Larios, 21, was shot about 8:50 p.m. Tuesday after running -- allegedly while carrying a handgun -- from a vehicle that officers had been following, according to the LAPD.

"The involved Foothill Area Officer is Police Officer III Daniel Ramirez, Serial No. 40184," the LAPD said in a statement on Monday morning.
According to the LAPD, officers from the Foothill Division Gang Enforcement Detail were patrolling in the area of Lehigh Avenue and Carl Street when they saw a dark-colored sedan speeding through the area. The officers followed the vehicle with the intent of making a traffic stop, but the driver suddenly pulled over and the front passenger -- Aguilar-Larios -- got out "armed with a handgun and began running through a housing development," police said.
"The officers broadcast they were in foot pursuit as they chased Aguilar-Larios, who eventually stumbled to the ground while holding a handgun in his right hand," police said in a statement. "As Aguilar-Larios stood up to continuing fleeing," he was shot by police.
It was unclear if the suspect fired any shots, but police said no officers were injured. Aguilar-Larios was taken to a hospital, where he died a short time later. Police said a 9mm handgun was recovered at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle the officers had been following fled the scene and remains at large. That person has not been identified. Other details have not been released by police, who said the investigation was continuing.
