The suspect, later identified as Jose Robles, allegedly pointed his gun at an unidentified person, which sparked an assault with a deadly weapon call.

Officers responding to an unrelated call at 54th Street and Gramercy Place spotted Robles walking down the street, allegedly holding a gun, the LAPD reported.

They attempted to stop Robles and ordered him to drop his gun. Robles allegedly refused and was shot by an officer, who was identified Wednesday as Officer II Jose Gomez-Magallanes.

Robles was taken to a hospital in critical condition. Police said they later found that the gun he was holding was a BB gun.

The LAPD's Force Investigation Division was investigating the shooting.
