Authorities sought public assistance Wednesday identifying a man in his 40s suspected in a series of bank robberies and attempted robberies throughout Los Angeles County.

Sheriff's officials said the suspect robbed or tried to rob various banks between October and January, with the latest robbery attempt occurring Monday at a Bank of America in an unincorporated area near Harbor City.


"In each of the robberies, the lone suspect approaches a bank teller and demands money, while simulating a weapon concealed under his sweatshirt," according to a sheriff's statement.

Deputies described the suspect as a man between 5-foot-8 and 5-foot- 10, weighing approximately 240 to 260 pounds.

He was last seen fleeing in a 2006-2007 silver-colored four-door Honda Accord with tinted windows and stolen plates.

Anyone with information regarding the suspect's identity or location was urged to contact the LASD Major Crimes Bureau Metro Detail at 562-946-7893. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 800-222- 8477.
