With the Rose Parade festivities behind us, fans have their yearly chance to get a closer look at the magnificent floats during Floatfest, a two-day event in Pasadena.
Held at Sierra Madre and Washington Boulevards, Floatfest offers attendees live music and food trucks, but the main attraction is, of course, the impressive floats.

Given the opportunity to walk alongside the floats, admiring the intricate details and craftsmanship that might have been missed from afar during the parade, one visitor said, "Face to Face. It's just beautiful. We've seen all of them, but when you see them up close in person, they look different than you saw them yesterday."
And the showstopper - the San Diego Zoo's float. For the 2nd straight year, the San Diego Zoo won the Showcase Award. Its president, Paul Baribault, accepted the trophy at Thursday's brief ceremony.

"This year's float showcases some of the incredible ecosystems that we work in to protect from the Misty Mountains of China to the tropical forests of Malaysia," Baribault said. "The presence of the giant pandas Yun Shuan and Jingbao on our float highlights their important role in our global efforts to protect wildlife and celebrates how conservation can truly unite us."
Floatfest runs Thursday, Jan 2nd to Friday, Jan 3rd.
