At Griffith Park Saturday, people gathered for the Streets Are For Everyone’s Finish the Ride and Finish the Run event. KNX News’ Nataly Tavidian caught up with someone who is working on the event’s mission to make streets safer.
Gracen Matai Meyers, an 18-year-old student at de Toledo High School, made the film “If Only” – a public service announcement focused on teen driving. It won silver in the Streets Are for Everyone PSA competition.
“I hope people just take a moment and really think about what they are doing,” he said. Myers also explained that film pays tribute to Ryan Koeppel, a film lover and deToledo student who lost his life at age 16 due to a reckless driver.
The Auto Club – the sponsor of the weekend’s events – said more than 13,000 people have died in teen crashes nationwide in the past few years. Nearly a third of fatal crashes happen during the summer, and The Auto Club raises awareness through its “100 Deadliest Days” of summer initiative.
