The city of Long Beach is stepping in to help workers and contractors impacted by layoffs from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena.
JPL laid off about 530 people earlier this month due to a lack of congressional funding. Long Beach held a job fair Friday to connect those former employees with new jobs in the aerospace industry.
KNX News’ Nataly Tavidian spoke to Kavitha Rao, who had just started her career at JPL after graduating from New York University with a degree in mechanical and aerospace engineering.
“I definitely took some time to process, took a day or two to grieve, and then just be with friends, but mostly I'm just enjoying SoCal as well as coming to events like this,” Rao said.
Over a dozen aerospace-related companies were at the job fair looking to hire.
