A community in Los Feliz is rallying around a 9-year-old boy whose adaptive tricycle was stolen last weekend.

Jack, who has Down syndrome and autism, relies on the bike to get around and gives him a sense of independence, his mom, Marie Johnson, said.

“He gets on that bike and his little chest puffs up, and he's just so proud of his bicycle because he sees all these other little kids going on bikes and doing things that, you know, before were unattainable for him,” she told KNX News’ Karen Adams.

Johnson said she doesn't know how to break the news to him that his bike is missing.

“I don't even know that I want to face having to explain that to him because he's such a sweet soul, and he sees really the good in everybody,” she said. “He would either comprehend it, and it would break his heart, or he wouldn't comprehend it and be very frustrated.”

Several moms in the area set up a GoFundMe to get Jack a bike. As of Friday morning, they’ve raised over $900.
