A 25-year-old Seal Beach man was behind bars Tuesday on charges of abusing a 4-year-old and leading police on a chase in Seal Beach, Los Alamitos and Cypress.
Cody Brian Rohlfing was charged Monday with child abuse and endangerment, leading police on a chase and failing to stop at a hit-and-run accident with injury, all felonies, as well as a misdemeanor count of resisting arrest.
Seal Beach police were called just before 3:40 p.m. Thursday to Heather Street and Guavara Avenue about the child, who was wandering alone in the neighborhood and had injuries to the face and body, police said.
Rohlfing is not related to the child, but lives with the victim's mother, police said.
While checking out the victim, officers saw Rohlfing driving by, but when police tried to pull him over he kept going, leading a pursuit that ended on the northbound 405 Freeway when it was unclear whether he kept going north or got on the 605 Freeway, police said.
About three minutes later, the suspect crashed into another vehicle in Los Alamitos and he got out and ran away, but with help from Los Alamitos and Cypress officers along with Huntington Beach's helicopter he was found and arrested, police said.
Rohlfing pleaded not guilty Monday and was scheduled for a pretrial hearing July 6 in the West Justice Center in Westminster
