NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (KNX) — A man was taken into custody on Tuesday after reportedly barricading himself inside the Newport Beach home of former Real Housewives of Orange County cast member Elizabeth Vargas.
According to TMZ, the suspect is Vargas’ ex-boyfriend. She had contacted authorities earlier on Tuesday and accused him of extortion.
Later, police responded to a call for a welfare check at Vargas’ home, where the ex-boyfriend was reportedly residing.
When officers arrived at Vargas’ home in the aarea of East Balboa Boulevard and Medina Way on Balboa Island around 5:45 p.m., the suspect proceeded to barricade himself inside and a standoff ensued.
Vargas was reportedly not harmed in the altercation and was not taken hostage.
By 8:30 p.m., SWAT teams cleared the homes to ensure no one else was inside, and the suspect was taken into custody. No injuries were reported.
Vargas starred in the 15th season of The Real Housewives of Orange County on Bravo.
