
A man was badly burned Friday in a fire that damaged an apartment building in the downtown Los Angeles area.
Firefighters sent to the 500 block of east Seventh Street about 5:35 a.m. extinguished the flames in the third-floor apartment in 17 minutes, according to Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
"The 69 year-old male resident of the involved unit sustained severe - - second-degree -- burn injury to 30% of his body, and has been taken by LAFD Paramedics to a regional burn care facility in critical condition," Humphrey said. "No other injuries have been reported."
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
