Bail has been reduced from $8 million to $4 million for the driver accused of killing 4 Pepperdine students in a car crash on Pacific Coast Highway, but his attorney is looking to cut that amount even further.
Defense attorney Michael Kraut told KNX News’ Maragret Carrero the issue is whether or not the public is safe with his 22-year-old client, Fraser Bohm, out of custody.
“We're seeking to get a proper bail amount, what the court determines as an appropriate amount to ensure the safety of the public and to have my client make sure he returns,” he said.
Kraut says there’s no evidence that Bohm was driving at 104 mph, which District Attorney George Gascón alleged when announcing the charges. He also claims to have a video that proves Bohm is a victim of a road rage incident, which led to the fatal crash.
“My client was picking up tacos for a friend. There was no drugs, no alcohol, nothing that he consumed, no smoking of marijuana,” Kraut said.
He told KNX News’ Craig Fiegener Bohm has been cooperative and honest with police. Kraut wants to get the bail down to $400,000.
The judge has rescheduled the bail review hearing for 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 30.
