A disabled man was killed when his Eagle Rock home caught fire on Sunday.

The fire broke out around 11:30 a.m. A neighbor told KNX News they heard the man screaming for help inside the burning house while another man tried to put out the flames with a garden hose.

According to Los Angeles City Fire Captain Adam Van Gerpen, firefighters had problems getting through the home because there was so much junk inside.

“They made their way back to the rear of the home, and unfortunately they did find a deceased elderly man who appeared to be handicapped and was unable to be revived,” Van Gerpen said.

Neighbors say the man, who couldn’t walk, was confined to a room in the back of the house. A caretaker and her boyfriend reportedly lived with him.
