Man shot and killed after brandishing gun, leading police on chase in Lancaster

A man shot by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies after a chase through Lancaster Thursday has died.

Lancaster Station deputies received a call Thursday that there was a man brandishing a firearm at Deputy Pierre Bain Park at 45045 5th Street East around 4:10 p.m. The man was allegedly pointing the weapon at passing cars and park visitors.

An LASD helicopter flying overhead saw the suspect get into a white car and flee the park, authorities said.

The helicopter followed the suspect as he drove westbound on Avenue B into a dirt parking lot at West Avenue B and Sierra Highway. Deputies approached the suspect’s car in an armored rescue vehicle.

According to LASD, the suspect then began pointing the firearm at the helicopter and the approaching deputies.

Sheriff’s deputies shot at the suspect and a deputy-involved shooting took place around 4:53 p.m. LASD said that the suspect was “The suspect was struck by gunfire and immediately treated at the scene for his injuries.”

The suspect was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead.

No deputies were injured in the shooting, but a handgun belonging to the suspect was recovered from the scene, said LASD. Homicide detectives from the sheriff’s department are investigating the shooting.

The shooting took place only one day after another officer-involved shooting in Lancaster. Similarly, deputies said the man was armed and aimed his firearm at them. The man shot on Wednesday is in critical condition at a local hospital.
