HAWTHORNE, Calif. (KNX) — A man was fatally after an argument broke out at a backyard baby shower in Hawthorne Monday night, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
About 20 people were gathered at a home in the 3900 block of West 118th Street when gunfire broke out, shortly before midnight.
Two men reportedly got into a verbal altercation, resulting in a 25-year-old man being shot multiple times in the torso, according to a sheriff’s department spokesperson.
The unnamed victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspected shooter was described as male, in his late 20s, invited to the party by friends. He fled the scene after the shooting.
It was not immediately clear how the suspect and the victim knew each other, or what prompted the altercation.
