Police on Thursday are investigating a shooting near Point Fermin in San Pedro that left a man dead.
The Los Angeles Fire Department received a call regarding a medical emergency call at 11:55 p.m. Wednesday and officers from the Los Angeles Police Department's Harbor Division responded to the 3700 block of S. Meyler St. and West Paseo Del Mar, south of 37th Street, where they found the victim under a staircase with a gunshot wound, an LAPD officer told City News Service.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police established a perimeter around the area as they searched for evidence and possible witnesses.
The LAPD's South Bureau will be in charge of the investigation, police said.
