A man was fatally stabbed following an altercation at the Metro Crenshaw Station in Hawthorne.
On Wednesday around 7:20 p.m., deputies from Metro Transit Services Bureau responded to the Metro Green Line at 11902 South Crenshaw Boulevard. When they arrived they found the victim, described as a “Hispanic male, 20 to 25 years old,” with stab wounds.
He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
“Investigators learned that while on the train, the victim and suspect got into a physical altercation,” the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said. “During the incident, the victim produced a handgun as the suspect began to stab him. The suspect then exited the train and was apprehended by deputy personnel.”
The suspect, described by deputies as “a Hispanic male, 20-25 years of age,” was taken to the hospital for gunshot wounds.
One Metro rider told KNX News’ Jon Baird he carries a knife for protection.
“That’s for protection reasons,” he said. “I’m not here to hurt nobody. Someone’s gonna attack me, I’m gonna defend myself.”
This comes as the L.A. Metro is encouraging those attending Taylor Swift's concert at SoFi Stadium to use their service to get to and from the stadium.
Anyone with information about this incident is urged to call the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500. You can also call "Crime Stoppers" by dialing (800) 222-TIPS (8477).
