Passengers on the bus alerted the driver that he had run over the man, according to a broadcast report.

"The Los Angeles Fire Department and the Los Angeles Police Department responded immediately to the scene and confirmed the pedestrian was deceased," according to a statement from the transit agency. "Metro extends its heartfelt condolences to the pedestrian's family."

Metro officials said the agency is working closely with the LAPD as they investigate the fatality.
