PALMDALE, Calif. (KNX) – A man was killed Tuesday after being run over by a car while trying to steal its catalytic converter in Palmdale.
It happened in a parking lot in the 39000 block of 10th Street West just before 6 p.m., officials said. Deputies from the Palmdale Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of grand theft in progress.

Further investigation revealed the victim was asleep inside the Ford SUV and heard a noise.
“The victim woke up from the sound, turned the car on, put the vehicle in reverse, and felt a bump like she ran something over,” the department said in a press release, adding that the victim called 9-1-1.
The suspect was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Deputies also arrested one man and two women who were with the suspect in the smaller vehicle.
