Man stabbed after graduation at South El Monte High School

A man was stabbed after a graduation ceremony at South El Monte High School on Wednesday night.

It happened around 9:20 p.m. in the 1000 block of Durfee Avenue, according to KABC-7.

Sgt.Richard Lewis told KNX News’ Karen Adams that there was an altercation between two families attending the graduation ceremony.

“During that altercation, it went from verbal to a physical assault,” he said. “We do have two victims. One individual was slapped or struck and another individual was stabbed in the upper body.”

The person stabbed was described as a 22-year-old man. He was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover.

While the suspect escaped, Sgt. Lewis said deputies believe they know who they’re looking for.
