A murder warrant was issued for Miramontes, whose whereabouts weren't immediately known.

He and Ramirez were involved in an unspecified dispute at about 10:30 p.m. Monday in the 24000 block of Bostwick Dr., near Cactus Avenue, according to Sgt. Lance Stoyer of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

During the encounter, Miramontes pulled a handgun and shot the victim several times, then fled the location, Stoyer alleged. Deputies and paramedics arrived a short time later and pronounced Ramirez dead at the scene.

Central Homicide Unit detectives soon identified Miramontes as the alleged shooter and obtained the arrest warrant, according to the sheriff's spokesman.

Background information on the suspect was unavailable, and a possible motive for the attack was not disclosed.

Anyone with information about the case was asked to contact the Central Homicide Unit at 951-955-1777.
