An investigation is underway after a deadly police shooting in Watts on Tuesday.

Officers responded to the area of Kalmia and 103rd Street around 11 a.m., after receiving calls from people who reported a man who was swinging a large chain at people and cars, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

When officers arrived, they told the man to put down the chain. KNX News’ Pete Demetriou reported that despite firing a 40 millimeter round at the man, the man continued to hold the chain and approached officers when they shot him.

The man was taken to the hospital, where he died.
