Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass is in Paris with a goal of observing and learning how to best prepare for the 2028 Olympic Games.

Bass was chosen to be part of the presidential delegation – led by Dr. Jill Biden – to the opening ceremony. Bass told KNX News’ Craig Fiegener it’s a special honor to be on a delegation with the First Lady.

“I am there for official activities. I, of course, will be there to see the opening ceremony and the Paris Olympics,” Bass said. “The opening ceremony will be very, very different considering it will be on the water.”

Bass explained how she’ll be able to observe how transportation and security are managed at the Olympic games.

She’ll be meeting with Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo to discuss what arrangements took place to get to the opening ceremony.

This will be her second time meeting with Hidalgo about the Olympics. Bass went to Paris in March with the intent to see how the French city prepared for the games.

Bass is expected to be in Paris until Sunday and then back to work in L.A. on Monday.
