During Sunday’s news conference regarding Tropical Storm Hilary, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said it was important to keep Angelenos and city workers safe while “ensuring city services are operating as best as possible given the circumstances.”
Angelenos were asked to avoid any “unnecessary travel.”
“It’s critical that Angelenos stay safe and stay home unless otherwise directed by safety officials,” she said.

Bass also urged Angelenos to keep emergency kits on hand, and to make sure any and all electronic devices were charged.
She noted that while Tropical Storm Hilary is “an unprecedent weather event,” the city “has deep experience responding to crisis” and is prepared.
She added it was important to activate the Emergency Operations center to level two Saturday night “so that this morning, we were already in in action.”
In the event of a life-threatening emergency, residents were asked to call 9-1-1.
For power outages or a water line breakage, residents were asked to call 800-DIAL-DWP (342-5397).
For roadway flooding, tree limbs blocking roads or mudslides, residents should request service online or by calling 311.
