The search continues for the interim chief of police for the Los Angeles Police Department as the current chief, Michel Moore, will retire at the end of February.

Following a closed-session meeting on Friday, the Board of Police Commissioners Friday announced no action had been taken in selecting an interim chief.

Since Moore’s retirement announcement, many have speculated about who will take over both temporarily as well as permanently.

Chief Moore told L.A.’s Morning News’ Vicky Moore and Mike Simpson that he will respect the board’s responsibility of picking an interim replacement, as well as Mayor Bass’ choice for a permanent replacement.

“I know that there's a lot of anxiousness out there and people wondering and speculation and so forth,” he said. “But I think we're in good hands with this commission as well as with Mayor Bass and we'll find an interim here shortly and certainly before my departure, which is the 29th of February.”

Moore added that the men and women on the force “deserve a leader who's going to continue our path forward.”

“There are a number of initiatives that are ongoing that we need to continue to see a move forward on and I'm confident that the interim that will be selected will be that type of individual,” he said.

When asked if he thinks there will be people who will leave the department after he retires, Moore said no.

“It's this temperament that you bring to work,” he said. “Your best game. You go out, work your hardest and you ride for the brand, not the wrangler. And if you keep that mindset and the vast majority of our people do, I'm confident that this will be a smooth transition that the continuity of us moving forward.”

Moore said he looks forward to the support from Mayor Bass and elected officials in maintaining and improving staffing in the department.
