Mother of Emmanuel Haro pleads guilty for role in son's death

The mother of a 7-month-old Emmanuel Haro pleaded guilty in Riverside County in connection with her son's death.

Rebecca Haro pleaded guilty on Friday morning to felony child abuse, causing great bodily injury to her son. She was then sentenced to nearly 13 years in prison.

Haro and her husband, Jake, told police last August their baby had been kidnapped outside of a Big 5 store in Yucaipa. Days later, Jake and Rebecca were arrested at their home in Cabazon.

In November, Jake pleaded guilty to murder and assault and was sentenced to 32 years to life.

Molly Smith with the Riverside County District Attorney’s office said Rebecca was initially charged with murder and filing a false police report.

“We believe that she was knowledgeable of the injuries that her husband, Jake, was inflicting upon her 7-month-old child,” she said. “Our office feels very strongly in the stance that as a mother, she had the opportunity to step in on behalf of the child, take him away from the situation, [and] provide proper medical care, but she did not.”

Emmanuel's remains still haven't been found. Smith says investigators think only Jake knows where they are, but he has refused to say anything.
